Mark Your Calendar: Annalisa Vobis at FiveTen Studio

Bay Area "fiber sculptor" Annalisa Vobis creates amazingly lifelike coral-reef formations from heat-treated felt. The results are at once organically earthy and beautifully otherworldly.

An installation of her most recent work is up in Old Oakland's FiveTen Studio through July 29, with a reception for the artist this Friday, July 11, from 6 to 9 p.m.

FiveTen Studio is located at 831 Broadway in downtown Oakland. Find out more about Vobis here, visit the FiveTen Studio website here, and see my write-up of the gallery/retail space here.

(While you're in the area Friday evening, also check out the Best of the East Bay bash at the Oakland Museum from 7 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free and slew of local bands will be playing; vendors will be on hand with food, drink, and locally made wares; and there will be circus and dance performances, short-film screenings, and a kids' zone. The Museum galleries will stay open late, too -- so don't miss the Birth of the Cool and Cool Remixed exhibits.)
